Protea Garden

Protea is a genus in the southern hemisphere family Proteaceae and is native to South Africa. The Proteaceae originated on the Gondwana supercontinent and as this land mass broke up and the continents of Africa, Australia, India and South America drifted from Antarctica, representatives of this family remained on the constituent continents.

Besides the Protea, which have large and spectactular flowers in which the compound head of flowers is surrounded by large colourful bracts, the collection also contains some members of the closely related genera of Leucadendron, Leucospermum and Serruria.
