Hakea

Banksias and Hakeas

These beds contain many representatives of the Proteaceae genera Hakea and Banksia mainly from the Hunter region and Western Australia.

Hakeas have flowers similar to the grevilleas, however, the fruits are characteristically hard and woody, while the "flower heads" of the Banksia comprise large numbers of indvidual flowers which are also similar to Grevillea flowers, and which also produce large quantities of nectar.

You can find out more about these plants by visiting the Protea and Grevillea gardens which contain other genera of the Proteaceae family.
